SAFETY SOLUTIONS

Fabricate and mount handrails
Damaged cabinet door hinges; loose door/drawer pulls; failed drawer bottoms; inoperable drawer slides; loose cabinet trash receptacle hardware; cabinets separating from the wall; misaligned door and drawer faces; cabinet above the refrigerator that is too low to install a new, modern appliance.

Handrails are usually built on only one side of the stairs and often do not provide maximum stability or full access for the entire length of the stairs. To increase safety, we install a handrail to fill a gap where the handrail goes up only part of the way, and we also fabricate and install a full handrail along the wall side of the stairs.

Install grab bars
Grab bars are intended not only to assist getting in and out of a shower or tub, but they also prevent slip and fall accidents. We exclusively use Elcoma Premium grab bars. The surface of these grab bars is designed to provide a non-slip grip with both wet or soapy hands.

Repair loose stair treads
Cracked or loose stair treads are a danger. We are finish carpenters and can securely repair or replace damaged or loose treads, thus eliminating this hazard.

Install smoke and C0 detectors
There are specific building code requirements regarding location and spacing of ceiling-mounted smoke detectors. We follow these guidelines when installing smoke detectors. While smoke rises to the ceiling, CO is heavier than air and will settle closer to the floor, and for this reason, we install CO (carbon monoxide) detectors near the floor, on the baseboard.

Remove area rugs
Edges of an area rug can be a trip hazard, particularly for those who are aging in place, using a cane, a walker, a wheelchair, or crutches.  Removal of area rugs is a measure often recommended by an occupational therapist. If you need this done, we are at your service.

Lower thresholds
In older homes, thresholds are typically 3/4 inches thick. As we age, these thresholds can become a trip hazard. They may also be an obstacle when using a walker or wheelchair. We remove and replace them with one-quarter inch thick thresholds, thus minimizing the risk.
