Pre-hung door frames are often put together without sealing the end grain at the threshold. If the perimeter of the joint is not sealed with caulking, and the paint is not maintained, then an invitation to rot has been created. In this case, there was enough unaffected stock to maintained structural integrity, and we were able to scarf in new pieces and restore the frame.
